Secretary of Health Convenes Achieving Better Care by Monitoring the All Prescriptions Program (ABC-MAP) Board Meeting

07/22/2015

Harrisburg, PA – Secretary of Health Karen Murphy today convened the third meeting of the ABC-MAP Board, created under Act 191 of 2014. The goal of this board is to develop policies and procedures to expand the state’s prescription drug monitoring program.

“Opioid addiction and prescription drug abuse are an epidemic in Pennsylvania, and it is the Wolf Administration’s goal to curb this rampant problem,” said Murphy. “The ABC-MAP program will help Pennsylvania become a leader in enhanced drug monitoring, which will save lives across the commonwealth.”

The board reviewed potential candidates for the ABC-MAP advisory committee, which will provide the board guidance on best practices and strategies to address the opioid crisis in Pennsylvania.

In addition, the board heard a presentation - “Today’s Heroin Epidemic: More People at Risk, Multiple Drugs Abused” - by Ashley Parsons, MPH, a health innovation analyst for the Department of Health. The presentation gave an overview of many of the current issues that enable opioid abuse and addiction.

  • Secretary of Health Dr. Karen Murphy
  • Physician General Dr. Rachel Levine
  • Secretary of the Department of Human Services Ted Dallas
  • Secretary of the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs Gary Tennis
