08/07/2015

Harrisburg, PA – Secretary of Health Dr. Karen Murphy today recognized the MOM-n-PA dental clinic volunteers with a citation of honor from the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

MOM-n-PA has held annual mass dental clinics across the state since 2013 where volunteer dentists and other health professionals provide free oral care to those who cannot afford it.

This year’s “dental health mission” was held at the Farm Show complex in Harrisburg in on May 29 and 30th and provided an array of dental services for 1,700 men, women and children.

“The work by hundreds of dental professionals at this clinic meant vital health care was delivered to many people who needed it,” said Dr. Murphy, who presented the award to MOM-n-PA officers at a ceremony in the Capitol. “On behalf of the Pennsylvania Department of Health, I would like to recognize these medical professionals for their outstanding volunteer service to the community.”

Murphy was joined by Dr. Gary Davis, general chairman of MOM-n-PA Harrisburg, Dr. Bernie Dishler, event secretary, and Dr. Bill Spruill, community chairman.

"There is a need for quality oral health care in underserved rural and urban areas. MOM-n-PA makes a big difference in the lives of many people who we serve,” said Davis, who thanked the sponsors and volunteers that make MOM-n-PA possible.

The next clinic will be held in Pittsburgh on June 3 and 4, 2016.
