Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman and Second Lady remind Pennsylvanians to celebrate “1-4-3 Day” in Pennsylvania

05/21/2020

Braddock, PA - Lt. Gov. John Fetterman and Second Lady Gisele Barreto Fetterman are reminding Pennsylvanians to celebrate “1-4-3 Day” tomorrow.

Governor Tom Wolf announced that Friday, May 22, the 143rd day of the year, is 1-4-3 Day: a statewide day of kindness in honor of Pennsylvania native Fred Rogers. Rogers, best known for his beloved television series, Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, exemplified compassion. He regularly used 1-4-3 as another way of saying “I love you,” with 1-4-3 representing the number of letters in each word.

“During these uncertain times, it is even more important that we remember to show kindness to our neighbors and fellow Pennsylvanians,” said Lt. Governor John Fetterman. “We are all in this together, and I thank the Governor for reminding us of Fred Rogers’ message of love and kindness.”

This year, 1-4-3 Day is an opportunity to show the positive impact that neighborliness can have during more difficult times by recognizing and thanking essential workers and frontline employees through acts of kindness and appreciation.

As many Pennsylvanians prepare to celebrate 1-4-3 Day at home, the state has updated its Kindness Generator (found at 143day.dced.pa.gov/) to provide extra inspiration. The Kindness Generator provides inspiration for new ways to connect with the people in your community and show your appreciation for our essential workers. The 1-4-3 Day website also includes a Kindness Tracker, a tally of all the wonderful deeds Pennsylvanians do throughout the day, which are counted by using the hashtag.

“There are many ways that we can show kindness on 1-4-3 Day, and every day,” said Second Lady Gisele Barreto Fetterman. “Whether it is sending a thank you note to your children’s teacher letting them know that you appreciate everything they are doing to support your child or writing a note for an elderly neighbor letting them know that you are thinking about them. It’s important to show kindness to your neighbors.”

The Fettermans are encouraging Pennsylvanians to share their acts of kindness (which will hopefully inspire more good deeds) on social media using the hashtag #143DayinPA.
