StoryTime: Spectacular Spots by Susan Stockdale by Friday, February 2 10:00 AM
Gather in Ecology Hall for our story Spectacular Spots by award-winning author/illustrator Susan Stockdale. Discover why spots are helpful to animals and join our scavenger hunt to search for spotted animals from Pennsylvania. Each reading is held in a gallery and is followed by a related play activity or hands-on exploration of artifacts. StoryTime is included with general admission.
Nature Lab: Magnets! For ages 3 to 5 Thursday, February 8 11:30 AM
Join Museum Educators in Nature Lab to explore magnets! Learn how magnets work and explore several magnetic activities. This program is included with general admission.
3rd in the Burg: Art of the State Purchase Awards Exhibition Tour Friday, February 16 12:15-12:45 PM
Join Curator Amy Hammond as she leads a tour through “The Art of the State Purchase Award Collection, 1969-2017” exhibit. In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the annual juried exhibition Art of the State, this exhibit highlights works purchased by the Museum and added to its permanent collections. This exhibit will remain open through Sunday, February 18, 2018. Art of the State is presented by Jump Street and The State Museum of Pennsylvania. This program is included with general admission.
Nature Lab: The Great Blue Heron Thursday, February 22 11:30 AM
Join Museum Educators in Nature Lab to learn about one of Pennsylvania’s largest birds, the Great Blue Heron. This program, complete with hands-on objects and photographs, is included with general admission to the Museum.

Legends of the Night Sky: Perseus & Andromeda (Pre-K to 1st Grade)

For our youngest visitors, this fun-filled, fully-animated show tells the tale of the beautiful princess Andromeda, who in divine punishment for her mother’s bragging, is sacrificed to a sea monster and rescued by the Greek hero Perseus. Come enjoy this light-hearted mythological tale.
Dynamic Earth (4th Grade and up) Wednesday, Thursday, & Friday 1:00 PM; Saturday 12:00 Noon & 2:00 PM & Sunday 2:00 PM
Explore the inner workings of Earth's climate system. With visualizations based on satellite monitoring data and advanced supercomputer simulations, this cutting-edge production follows a trail of energy that flows from the Sun into the interlocking systems that shape our climate: the atmosphere, oceans, and the biosphere.

Planetarium shows are $3 per person in addition to general admission. Planetarium admission is free to members of the State Museum Affiliate and the Pennsylvania Heritage Foundation.
The State Museum of Pennsylvania, adjacent to the State Capitol in Harrisburg, is one of 24 historic sites and museums administered by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission as part of the Pennsylvania Trails of History. The State Museum offers expansive collections interpreting Pennsylvania’s fascinating heritage. With exhibits examining the dawn of geologic time, the Native American experience, the colonial and revolutionary eras, a pivotal Civil War battleground, and the commonwealth's vast industrial age, The State Museum demonstrates that Pennsylvania's story is America’s story.
Museum hours are Wednesday through Saturday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Sunday 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Admission is $7 for adults (ages 12-64), $6 for senior citizens (ages 65 and up), and $5 for children (ages 1-11).
