Houtzdale, PA – State Correctional Institution at Houtzdale
Superintendent Barry Smith reports the death of inmate Shane Savage on May 6,
2018.
Savage, age 32, was found unresponsive in his cell at 8:56 p.m.
on May 6, 2018. Officers and medical staff immediately responded to the scene
and began performing CPR. An ambulance
was requested and arrived at the facility. The inmate was pronounced dead at
9:50 p.m. by the Medic Command Physician at UPMC Altoona.
Pennsylvania’s State Police Barracks at Clearfield will
conduct an investigation. The official cause of death will be determined by the
Clearfield County Coroner’s Office.
Savage was serving 5-to-10 years for robbery on a Lackawanna
County conviction, effective January 11, 2012. He had been at SCI Houtzdale
since June 10, 2014.
Facility staff has notified the inmate’s next-of-kin.
