09/11/2018

Muncy, PA – At approximately 10:45 a.m. today, a male visitor entered the main gate at SCI Muncy to be processed for a visit with his daughter.  Upon processing this individual through the metal detector the security staff conducted a search of the visitor’s outer garment at which time a sandwich bag with an unknown leafy substance was discovered.

The security office was notified and arrived at the main gate and verified what appeared to be a green leafy substance contained in the bag.

Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) at Montoursville was notified, and a trooper arrived to the facility at 11:40 a.m.  A field test of the substance was conducted and was confirmed to be marijuana.

The visitor was taken into custody by PSP, and they will determine the next course of action, including the possible filing of criminal charges.  According to the new policy set in place by corrections Secretary John Wetzel, any visitor who is caught introducing/attempting to introduce contraband into the visiting room will be suspended indefinitely from visiting any Department of Corrections facility.

Individuals are encouraged to visit the DOC’s website for details and frequent updates on the changes being implemented.
