SCI Albion Staff Thwarts Escape Attempt

03/15/2019

Erie, PA – At 8:15 AM, March 15, 2019, while conducting a security sweep of the main yard prior to its use by inmates, SCI Albion Corrections Officer 1 (CO1) Jordan discovered an inmate attempting to conceal himself in the recreation area. Several officers – CO1 Cruz, CO1 Huber and CO2 Vanderlip – responded immediately and assisted in securing the inmate, who also was found to be in possession of items that could indicate his intent to escape.

"Through the diligent efforts of the officers searching this area, the inmate was discovered, immediately secured and his attempt to escape was unsuccessful," said SCI Albion Superintendent Michael Clark.

"The fast action of our staff not only stopped a potential escape but kept the community safe," said Department of Corrections Executive Deputy Secretary for Institutional Operations Tabb Bickell. "I am extremely proud of our SCI Albion team."

The inmate has been placed in the prison's restricted housing unit, and SCI Albion remains locked down pending a thorough and complete investigation.  Pennsylvania State Police was notified.

At no time was the community in danger from what we believe was an attempted escape.
