SCI Albion Reports Inmate Death

Harrisburg, PA – State Correctional Institution at Albion Superintendent Michael Clark reports the death of an inmate.

Corrections officers discovered inmate Nicholas Horner, 39, unresponsive in his cell during a routine check at 1:55 AM on August 24, 2019. The officers provided immediate emergency first aid until facility medical personnel arrived.

Horner was then transferred to the infirmary where life sustaining measures continued to be performed until outside emergency personnel arrived. At 2:33 AM, Horner was pronounced dead by a paramedic on site.

Pennsylvania's State Police Barracks at Girard and facility staff are conducting an investigation. The official cause of death will be determined by the Erie County Coroner's Office.

Horner was serving a life sentence for first degree murder, in Blair County, effective August 20, 2009.  He has been at SCI Albion since June 23, 2015.

The inmate's next of kin has been notified
