Harrisburg, PA - Today, the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP) Secretary Jennifer Smith urged drug and alcohol treatment providers to review and update continuity plans in preparation for additional COVID-19 cases across the commonwealth.
“As part of their drug and alcohol license, treatment facilities must have continuity plans developed to ensure that individuals have access to drug and alcohol services during events like the spread of COVID-19,” Smith said. “As a precaution, I encourage all licensed entities to review and update their plans, as necessary. The safety of our providers and the individuals they serve are of utmost importance to us.”
The department is asking treatment facilities with questions related to continuity planning to email RAemail@example.com.
As part of continuity planning, the department specifically asks Opioid Treatment Programs (OTP) and Narcotic Treatment Programs (NTP) to consider the expansion of guest dosing and filing exceptions through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) OTP website.
It is important for OTPs and NTPs to note that SAMHSA is not granting blanket exceptions. For more information and guidance on blanket exceptions, visit SAMHSA’s website.
