92 Pennsylvania School Districts Nationally Recognized for Commitments to Music Education

Harrisburg, PA - Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) Secretary Pedro A. Rivera today congratulated 92 Pennsylvania school districts recognized by the NAMM Foundation for their outstanding commitment to music education.

“Pennsylvania continues to be a national leader in advancing strong music programs in its public schools,” said Secretary Rivera. “We’ve accomplished this thanks to the efforts of talented music teachers, supportive school administrators and board members, and an outstanding professional organization, the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association.”

The Pennsylvania school districts are among 623 throughout the country to receive the NAMM Foundation’s designation for “Best Communities for Music Education,” now in its 20th year.

To qualify for the Best Communities designation, school districts were required to answer detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, and support for music programs. The NAMM Foundation, in partnership with The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas, verified district responses with school officials prior to making a designation.

The NAMM Foundation is a nonprofit supported in part by the National Association of Music Merchants and its approximately 10,400 members around the world. The foundation advances active participation in music making across a lifespan by supporting scientific research, philanthropic giving and public service programs.
