39 More School Districts Receive Safety and Security Grants

School Districts Receive Safety and Security Grants

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) today announced that an additional $919,000 in competitive Safe Schools Targeted grants are awarded to 39 school districts to purchase safety and security-related equipment. These are schools which applied for but did not receive PDE competitive grants during last fall’s funding cycle.

“The additional funding will help these schools create the safe and healthy learning environment that parents and their children deserve and further demonstrates the Wolf Administration’s commitment to students and teachers across the commonwealth,” said Secretary of Education Pedro A. Rivera.

Today’s grants, up to $25,000 each, will be used to purchase security-related equipment including student, staff and visitor identification systems; metal detectors; protective lighting; surveillance equipment; special emergency communications equipment; electronic locksets; deadbolts and theft control devices; and training in the use of the security-related technology.
