CELEBRATING 60 YEARS, HOWARD NURSERY HOSTS MAY 12 EVENT

05/01/2018

HARRISBURG, PA - The Pennsylvania Game Commission’s Howard Nursery is celebrating its 60th year, and the public is invited to join in.

On Saturday, May 12, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., the nursery is hosting a free event that offers free food and drinks and promises to be fun for the whole family.

Visitors who get cards punched at each of six stations to be set up on the day of the event will receive a free gift bag that includes a bluebird nesting box kit. Tours of the nursery will be offered along walking routes and by wagon, and there will be planting demonstrations, wildlife exhibits, a treasure hunt and an opportunity for visitors to create their own flower pots and plant seedlings in them to take home.

Howard Nursery is located at 197 Nursery Road in Howard, Pa.

The nursery produces seedlings for wildlife food and cover on state game lands and other public hunting properties, and in most years surplus seedlings are available for sale to the public. Most hardwoods produced by the nursery are grown from seed collected and processed by Game Commission personnel from Pennsylvania sources.

Howard Nursery can be reached at 814-355-4434.
