Wolf Administration Recognizes Emergency Medical Services Award Recipients

Harrisburg, PA - The Wolf Administration last evening joined the Pennsylvania Emergency Health Services Council in recognizing nine individuals, groups and organizations for their commitment and dedication to delivering the highest quality of pre-hospital medical care available to Pennsylvanians. 

“Our first responders are on the frontlines of helping Pennsylvanians during a time of need,” Acting Secretary of Health Alison Beam said. “These award recipients represent thousands of public servants across the state, who dedicate their lives to helping others and providing patients with the best care possible. The Wolf Administration is committed to ensuring emergency medical service providers have the resources they need to assist residents during their times of crisis.” 

The award recipients were announced Tuesday during the Pennsylvania EMS Awards virtual presentation. Award categories include clinical performance, education, communications, outstanding system contributions, innovation and organization-level operations. The 2021 award recipients are: 

  • Advanced Life Support Practitioner of the Year – Christian Martin-Gill, MD, UPMC Prehospital Care/ STAT MedEvac, Allegheny County;  
  • Basic Life Support Practitioner of the Year – Kelly Sweeney, Springfield Ambulance, Delaware County; 
  • EMS Educator of the Year – Michelle Eaton, Superior Ambulance, Mercer County; 
  • Amanda Wertz Memorial EMS for Children Award – Kimberly Roth, MD, UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County; 
  • David J. Lindstrom EMS Innovation Award – Douglas Wolfberg, JD, Dauphin County; 
  • Dr. George Moerkirk Memorial Contribution to EMS Award – Nora Helfrich, RN, EMT-P, Tri-Community South EMS, Allegheny County; 
  • Rescue Service of the Year – Ross/West View EMS Rescue, Allegheny County;
  • EMS Agency of the Year (Small Volume Division) – Springfield Ambulance, Delaware County; and 
  • EMS Agency of the Year (Large Volume Division) – Philadelphia Fire Department,  Philadelphia County.
