DMVA Grateful for Every Nursing Assistant Working Tirelessly in Agency’s Six Veterans Homes

06/15/2022

Annville, PA - National Nursing Assistants Week is June 16-22 and the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) wants to thank and recognize the nearly 500 nursing assistants caring for residents at its six veterans homes to know that they are greatly appreciated. The DMVA is honoring its certified nursing assistants with celebrations throughout the week.

“Nursing assistants are an essential element of our resident-care team,” said Maj. Gen. Mark Schindler, Pennsylvania’s adjutant general and head of the DMVA. “Every day they selflessly dedicate themselves emotionally and physically to make life easier and better for our residents. I am grateful for their professionalism and dedication.”

“We could not operate six veterans homes without an incredible team of nursing assistants caring for our residents,” said Brig. Gen. (PA) Maureen Weigl, deputy adjutant general for Veterans Affairs. “I am so proud of how hard our nursing assistants work day and night, never wavering in their dedication and compassionate care.”

The veterans homes also employ more than 400 certified registered nurse practitioners, registered nurses and licensed practical nurses. The DMVA continues to search for dedicated nurses and nurse assistants looking to serve those who served. DMVA offers competitive wages; paid vacation, holiday and parental leave; flexible work schedules; and many other benefits.

The six homes DMVA operates are: the Delaware Valley Veterans’ Home in Philadelphia; the Gino J. Merli Veterans’ Center in Scranton; the Hollidaysburg Veterans’ Home in Hollidaysburg; the Pennsylvania Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Home in Erie; the Southeastern Veterans’ Center in Spring City; and the Southwestern Veterans’ Center in Pittsburgh.
