DMVA Honors Certified Nursing Assistants at PSSH for Their Selfless Care of Veterans

06/22/2022

Annville, PA - Today, certified nursing assistants (CNAs) at the Pennsylvania Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Home (PSSH) in Erie were honored for their selfless care of veterans in recognition of National Nursing Assistants Week June 16-22, 2022. The PSSH is one of six veterans homes operated by the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA). The DMVA is honoring its nearly 500 CNAs who care for our veterans and their families throughout all of its six veterans homes.

“Our certified nursing assistants provide the majority of hands-on resident care and they are a valuable part of our team,” said Barb Raymond, director, Bureau of Veterans Homes. “Whether it is bathing a resident, changing their clothes and bedding, checking vitals or taking the time to hold a hand, our CNAs are the backbone of daily care. They always have a great attitude, bright smile and set a positive tone for all of us to follow each day.”

“It is important that we take time and let our certified nursing assistants know how much they are valued,” said Cheri Spacht, PSSH commandant. “We are fortunate to have an incredibly dedicated team of professionals who take great pride in caring for men and women who served our nation. Our residents deserve the excellent care, and our caregivers deserve accolades for their great work”

Throughout the week, the PSSH is holding special events for its CNA staff such as: prize drawings, a Sweets Day, a Snack Day, and dress down days. Similar events are being held at the other five veterans homes operated by DMVA honoring our CNA staff for their steadfast dedicated service in taking care of our veterans and their families.

The DMVA’s six veterans homes also employ more than 400 certified registered nurse practitioners, registered nurses and licensed practical nurses who all provide outstanding care to residents.

The DMVA continues to search for dedicated nursing staff to serve those who served by offering competitive wages; paid vacation, holiday and parental leave; flexible work schedules; and many other benefits.

On June 28, 2022 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2-6 p.m. the PSSH is hosting a job fair for nurses at 560 East Third Street, Erie, PA 16507. For questions regarding the PSSH job fair, call 814-878-4943. To apply for rewarding nursing positions at DMVA, visit DMVA Nurse Employment Opportunities
