Harrisburg, PA - Education and outreach staff from the Department of Banking and Securities (DoBS) will be meeting with groups of senior citizens, veterans, service providers, and the public throughout the month of Month to promote financial capability as part of Governor Tom Wolf’s Consumer Financial Protection Initiative.
National Consumer Protection Week
DoBS will offer a variety of programs as part of National Consumer Protection Week, March 1 - 7, across the commonwealth.
Attorney General’s National Consumer Protect Week 2020 Kick-Off – DoBS staff will be available to answer questions and provide resources in the Strawberry Square Atrium in Harrisburg (Dauphin County) on March 2 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
“Scam Jam” – Features presentations from the Montgomery County DA’s Office, PA Attorney General’s Office, Whitpain Township Police Department and DoBS. This event will take place at Normandy Farms Estates at 9000 Twin Solo Drive in Blue Bell (Lancaster County) on March 3 from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM. “Avoiding Scams and ID Theft” – A program that looks at how identities are stolen or compromised, and identifies ways to protect yourself. This event will take place at the Linda Kohut/Pittston Active Adult Center at 441 N Main Street in Pittston (Luzerne County) on March 4 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
“Investing in Women” – A presentation to discuss the unique financial obstacles facing women including lower investment participation, and provide a road map on confidently managing banking, budgeting, credit and investing. This event will take place on March 4, at Central Penn College at 600 Valley Road, ATEC Building Rooms 200/202, in Summerdale (Cumberland County) from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM.
“Cybersecurity: Keeping Yourself Safe Online” – A program designed to help build cyber awareness will take place be offered at the following locations:
- Plains Active Adult Center at 50 2nd Street in Wilkes-Barre (Luzerne County) on March 5 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
- Blair Senior Services, Inc. at 1320 12th Avenue in Altoona (Blair County) on March 6 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM.

Spending Plans – A Road to Financial Success – Will be presented at the Cleve J. Fredricksen Library, Business and Career Center, at 100 N. 19TH Street in Camp Hill (Cumberland County) on March 30 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
Making Your Money Last in Retirement and Investment Fraud Bingo – Will be presented at the East Stroudsburg Presbyterian Church at 55 Smith Street in East Stroudsburg (Monroe County) on March 18 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM.
For Senior Citizens
“Fraud BINGO” will be offered at the following locations:
- Dallas Active Adult Center at 1100 Twin Stacks Drive in Dallas (Luzerne County) on March 12 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
- Millersburg Area Senior Center at 109 Edward Drive in Millersburg (Dauphin County) on March 13 from 11:15 AM to 12:15 PM.
- Haven at Springwood at 2321 Freedom Way in York (York County) on March 31 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
Spending Plans – A Road to Financial Success – Will be offered at the Philadelphia Senior Center at 509 S. Broad Street in Philadelphia (Philadelphia County) on March 16 from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM.
Avoiding Scams and ID Theft – Will be offered at the Big Spring Senior Center at 91 Doubling Gap Road, Suite 1 in Newville (Cumberland County) on March 18 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM.
For Organizations and Service Providers
“Fraud Bingo” will be presented by DoBS staff to members of PARSE Franklin County at the Chambersburg Recreation Center at 235 South 3rd Street in Chambersburg (Franklin County) on March 10 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
Start Today and Retire Tomorrow (STaRT) will be presented to commonwealth employees at the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation – Administrative Support Division at 1171 South Cameron Street in Harrisburg (Dauphin County) on March 17 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM.
Avoiding Scams, Identity Theft, and Investment Fraud – Will be presented to PARSE members at the American Legion – Hollidaysburg at 104 Allegheny Street in Hollidaysburg (Blair County) on March 17 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
“Fraud Bingo” – Will be presented to the Parkinson’s Support Group in Altoona, at Hoss’ Altoona at 621 Valley View Boulevard in Altoona (Blair County) on March 30 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
DoBS staff will be available at the following legislative expos:
- Senator Larry Farnese’s Senior Expo at the Cohocksink Recreation Center at 2901 Cedar Street in Philadelphia (Philadelphia County) on March 31 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
