May 2021 Consumer Financial Protection Virtual Events Announced

Harrisburg, PA - Education and outreach staff from the Pennsylvania Department of Banking and Securities (DoBS) will be hosting and participating in numerous virtual presentations for groups of senior citizens, service providers, and the public throughout the month of May to promote financial capability as part of Governor Tom Wolf’s Consumer Financial Protection Initiative.  

All May outreach events will be held virtually and in partnership with the listed organizations. The events are open to the public unless otherwise noted.

Virtual Events For General Audiences

Midweek Money Matters – a series of webinars covering a variety of financial topics – will be presented on:

Cybersecurity – Keeping Yourself Safe Online - This presentation - covering the use of secured websites, strong passwords, shopping safely online, and using social media as safely as possible – will be offered:

Avoiding Scams and ID Theft – This presentation – looking at ways people’s identities are stolen or compromised, what you can do if your identity is stolen, and how to stop theft from occurring – will be offered:

Fraud Bingo – This presentation - a fun and interactive game that teaches consumers how to protect themselves from investment fraud by playing BINGO - will be offered:

  • Delaware County Office of Services for the Aging (Delaware County) on May 14 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Open to participants of the Foster Grandparents Program.

  • NARFE Chapter 0664 (Philadelphia County) on May 19 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Open to Chapter members.

Spending Plans - focusing on the need for a spending plan so that people can achieve their financial goals – will be presented to employees of Benco Dental (Luzerne County) on May 26 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. Open to employees.

As part of the Pennsylvania Military Finance Alliance, the department is offering virtual presentations for members of the military and veterans throughout May addressing their unique financial challenges.

DoBS Investor Education and Consumer Outreach staff work with state and local government agencies, service providers, community and trade organizations, the General Assembly, the military community, schools, and other partners to help Pennsylvanians across the commonwealth become well-informed about the financial marketplace.
