Camp Hill, PA – State Correctional Institution at Camp Hill Superintendent Laurel Harry reports the death of an inmate.
On January 1, 2019, an officer performing a security round noticed an inmate in his cell suspended from the top bunk by a bed sheet. The inmate, Elid Gueits was immediately placed on the floor and CPR was administered by security staff until medical staff arrived. Lower Allen EMS arrived a short time later and attempted to resuscitate Gueits.
Gueits was pronounced dead at 12:40 AM. The local coroner and Pennsylvania State Police were notified at this time. The official cause of death will be determined by the Cumberland County Coroner’s office.
Gueits, 24, was serving an 11-month to four-year sentence for drug manufacture/sale/deliver, out of Lancaster County. He had been at SCI Camp Hill since September 13, 2018.
The inmate’s next-of-kin has been notified.
