Bellefonte, PA - State Correctional Institution at Benner Township Superintendent Robert Marsh reports that inmate Conrad Carpenter, 54, was found unresponsive in his cell at approximately 3:03 PM on January 20, 2019.
Prison staff immediately responded and provided life-saving measures until facility medical personnel arrived. Staff performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation until relieved by ambulance personnel.
Carpenter was pronounced dead at 4:05 PM by medical personnel. The county coroner and Pennsylvania State Police were notified. The official cause of death will be determined by the Centre County Coroner’s Office.
Carpenter, 54, was serving a 4-year to 8-year sentence for sexual assault out of Lycoming County. He had been at Benner Township since September 6, 2018.
Facility staff has notified the inmate’s next-of-kin.
