Coal Township, PA – SCI Coal Township Superintendent Thomas McGinley reported that inmate Antonio Turner, 48, was found unresponsive in his cell at approximately 6:28 AM on January 27, 2019.
Prison staff immediately responded and provided life-saving measures until facility medical personnel arrived. Staff used the automated external defibrillator and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation until relieved by ambulance personnel.
Inmate Turner was convicted in 1990 of 1st degree murder in Allegheny County and was sentenced to life in prison. He had been SCI Coal Township since October 2018.
As is the case with all inmate deaths, the institution notified the Pennsylvania State Police and the county coroner, who, by policy, will conduct an investigation. The official cause of death will be determined by the Northumberland County coroner.
The inmate’s next-of-kin has been notified.
