Pittsburgh Area Probation, Parole Officials Hold Annual “Get Back To Work” Help Fair for Reentrants

06/21/2019

Pittsburgh, PA – Pittsburgh Probation and Parole District Office officials, in partnership with Pittsburgh Community Services, Inc. and several organizations and companies, held the 14th Annual "Get Back To Work" Help Fair where approximately 50 organizations and businesses who are willing to hire state and county reentrants and provide them with reentry services met with and conducted on-the-spot employment interviews.

"This was the second day of reentry activities, with the first day consisting of day-long information sessions that covered community resources, health and wellness, hiring and home income and other support services," said Pittsburgh Probation and Parole District Office Director Brian Helfrich. "We appreciate our partners, especially with Pittsburgh Community Services, Inc., who help make this fair possible."

Held at Colab 18 at Nova Place, approximately 120 reentrants participated in the day's events.

According to Helfrich, there are presently 5,000 probationers and parolees in the region.

"This help fair is intended to connect reentrants with community reentry service providers, treatment providers, educators and employers," Helfrich said.

"PCSI is excited to continue this annual collaborative effort with the Pittsburgh Probation and Parole, joined by Allegheny County Probation this year, to provide support services information sharing and real job opportunities for returning citizens in the Pittsburgh region," said PSCI Executive Director Odell Richardson. "Historic barriers to employment for these individuals are being mitigated every day."

Organizations and entities participating in today's help fair included, but were not limited to: Aleph Institute, Amazon, Builders Guild of SWPA, Catholic Charities, City of Pittsburgh Human Resources, Cola 18 and Farros Biz Incubators, Elite Staffing, FEDEX, Flagger Force, Goodwill Industries of SWPA, Iron Workers Local 3, Mascaro Construction, New Century Career, Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, P.J.
