Dallas, PA- Kevin Ransom, superintendent of the State Correctional Institution at Dallas, reported that inmate Matthew Boyer, 37, was found unresponsive in his cell at 6:52 p.m. on January 13, 2023. Prison staff immediately responded and provided life-saving measures. He was pronounced deceased at 7:36 p.m.
Boyer was serving a 30-to-60-year sentence for a third degree murder conviction from Berks County. He had been housed at Dallas since August 18, 2021.
In accordance with state policy, Pennsylvania State Police were notified and will conduct an investigation. The official cause of death will be determined by the Luzerne County Coroners Office.
The deceased's next-of-kin has been notified.
